Sound of Paper: 5 Areas to work on Daily

This is part of my work in the Julia Cameron Artist’s Way series. The work this time is from the book the Sound of Paper. The responses are self-examinations and assessments based on work through a daily series of exercises. While I do keep some material offline as it can be very personal and jarring, I often opt to be fairly open about my experiences, both positive and negative.

These are 5 areas where I sould do a daily, small amount of work/practice:

  1. Stretching. I could – and would definitely most benefit from – earmarking more time to stretch daily. I typically do 15 minutes or so while watching television, but two office seating related injuries later I have to acknowledge I just plain need more. Because I spend so much time at the gym, the need for more flexibility has become a natural byproduct.
  2. The one small thing declutter approach. It has worked so well in recent years that this year’s spring clean will be light compared to previous years.
  3. Break down gardening, especially the early phases, into “one plant per day.” If I just seed one plant per day, it takes little time, makes little mess, and I do not end up feeling overwhelmed by what I’m trying to create. Added to do: replace that one grow bulb. Also, I have some seeds for plans that aren’t going to happen on my end if anyone wants them.
  4. A daily practice for social media and genuine connections would be good; I’m not sure what I can do that would not be too time consuming, though.
  5. Meditation before eating. I usually eat at home because of my allergies, but for some reason November/December were surprisingly binge-trigger free but January I was suddenly eating well past my full point again. I need to figure out what happens in January that didn’t, especially as I had what amounted to a full on emotional assault by the usual perpetrators in November. So what was different? My socializing increased in January, and that started to conflict with my gym schedule. Maybe there?
